十大降低胆固醇健康食物
2.桃驳梨︰除了桃驳梨之外,其实很多水果都含有丰富的水溶性及非水溶性纤维,例如橙、香蕉及西柚等,都是上佳降低胆固醇的食物。
3.红萝卜︰红萝卜含有丰富的水溶性纤维,而且甘甜爽口,又含有相当高的维他命A,用来作沙律或伴菜就最适合不过。另外,不少蔬菜都 含有水溶性纤维,例如椰菜,其营养价值与红萝卜也不遑多让。
4.眉豆︰眉豆含有丰富的水溶性纤维,其它「近亲」的干豆类,所含的水溶性纤维也不少,例如红豆、绿豆、黑豆等,用来煲汤或炮制糖水 都健康有益。
5.豆浆︰与豆腐一样,含有丰富的黄豆蛋白,能降低坏胆固醇。根据美国药物管理局建议,每天进食25克的黄豆蛋白,以及配合低脂肪及 低胆固醇的饮食,就能有效降低体内胆固醇的含量。
6.果仁︰其它如开心果、杏仁及花生等,脂肪含量虽然颇高,但果仁含有丰富单元不饱和脂肪,能有效降低胆固醇,只要吃适量就会对身体 有益。
7.奥米加3脂肪酸︰诸如深鱼类的三文鱼、吞拿鱼、沙甸鱼,就含有丰富的奥米加3脂肪酸,能降低三脂甘油酸,令血液的黏稠度下降,有 助减低血栓形成的机会。
8.金菇︰不只金菇,其实很多菇菌类的食都含有丰富的水溶性纤维,能帮助降低胆固醇及预防心脏病,而且菇菌类的食物烹调方法简易,味 道又可口,吃多点也无妨呢!
9.橄榄油︰与芥花籽油一样,橄榄油含有单元不饱和脂肪,日常应以健康食油来代替动物食油,而且味道清香,用来炒菜或制作沙律都很健 康。
10.海藻类︰即海带及紫菜,含有丰富的水溶性纤维,用来制作沙律、入馔及煲汤,都能吸收其纤维成分。
另外:
一.合理饮食调养:提倡清淡,限制高脂肪、高胆固醇类饮食,如动物脑髓、蛋黄、鸡肝、黄油等。脂肪摄入量每天限制在30~50克。糖类食品也要限制,不吃甜食和零食。多吃蔬菜和水果。宜低盐饮食。晚上九点以后尽量不吃东西,因为不易消化,适当运动。
二.绝对戒烟忌酒:香烟中的尼古丁,能使周围血管收缩和心肌应激性增加,使血压升高。
三.提倡适量饮茶:茶叶中含有的儿茶酸有增强血管柔韧性、弹性和渗透性的作用
四.适当运动减肥:控制肥胖是预防血脂过高的重要措施之一。控制体重的增长。
Najib: Sendayan to replace Sungei Besi air base

GEMAS, May 28 — A new air force base will be built in Sendayan, near Seremban to replace the historic Sungei Besi base in Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced today.
Putrajaya wants the sprawling Sungei Besi air base to be redeveloped into a commercial hub under the Greater Kuala Lumpur plan, part of the Najib administration’s Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).
The prime minister said the project details would be announced soon.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed on June 10 last year that the old air base, which had been turned into a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base, would be closed to make way for the “Greater KL” development project as laid out in the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP).
The minister said then the 54-year-old air base would be redeveloped jointly by the government, private sector and foreign investors, and that the ministry had identified several investors from the Middle East with the potential to be involved in the development.
But the high cost of a relocation had been a stalling point.
It is understood that an agreement was signed in May last year which involved the Defence Ministry, the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) which is the developer, and the investors from the Middle East.
The Sungai Besi Airport was Malaysia’s first international airport.
The 162-hectare airport, also known as Simpang, served as the main air link from 1952 to 1965, before Subang Airport was opened.
It was originally used as an airstrip in the 1930s but was turned into an airport after World War 2.

Nazri defends ‘excellent’ PSD scholarship award.

He held a press conference in Parliament here this afternoon to clear all confusion over the issue by explaining the mechanics behind PSD’s scholarship awards, including its selection process and criteria.
In his explanation, Nazri reiterated that in tandem with the prime minister’s pledge last year, all SPM students who scored straight 8A+ and above were guaranteed a place in either local or foreign institutions.
He added that the scholarships offered were centered on courses considered critical to Malaysia’s civil service like medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, engineering, science and technology, and social sciences.
“We have two major categories for the scholarship awards. One is the PILN (overseas degree programme) for 1,500 students and another is the PIDN (local degree programme) for 2,500 students, both amounting to 4,000.
“We also offer 8,000 spots in local universities for other qualified students who will get scholarships for matriculation or diploma courses,” he said.
He revealed that of the 4,000 PILN and PIDN scholarships awarded to the 2010 batch of SPM top scorers, 2,183 spots, or 55 per cent, were snapped up by Bumiputera students and 1,817, or 45 per cent, were offered to the non-Bumiputeras.
A total of 16,900 students (7,277, or 43.1 per cent, Bumiputeras and 9,623, or 56.9 per cent, non-Bumiputeras) had applied for PILN scholarships, he said, but only 8,857 made the cut with the minimum academic requirement of straight 9A+ and above.
Nazri also explained that out of the 1,500 scholarships offered for PILN, 300 were given out solely based on merit to the highest scoring students.
“If I’m not mistaken, 363 students qualified for the merit scholarship interviews but we could only give out 300 in the end,” he said.
Nazri also explained that since only 1,500 PILN scholarships were offered to the 8,857 qualified applicants, the remaining 7,357 who failed to make the cut were still allowed to apply within the PIDN category.
As there were only 2,500 spots offered under PIDN, he added, the remaining 4,857 students who failed their interviews would still be eligible for the 8,000 scholarships offered to other qualified students who would be offered matriculation or diploma courses at local institutions.
Nazri revealed that the government was spending a total of RM1.44 billion for the 4,000 scholarships offered under PILN and PIDN — RM1.08 billion for PILN and RM0.36 billion for PIDN.
Nazri also continued to chastise MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong for raising a hue and cry by alleging abuses of power in the PSD without first attempting to clarify the confusion with him as the minister in charge of PSD.
“We have to be fair to the officers. When you are a politician and you attack a civil servant, they cannot defend themselves. I am doing this on behalf of all the excellent officers that we have,” he declared.
Nazri revealed that both the prime minister and his deputy had been briefed on PSD’s selections for the year on May 5, before the awards were announced on May 13.魏家祥:獎學金分配今年最亂 實在無厘頭

魏家祥形容,今年海內外獎學金分配是有史以來最嚴重的亂象,官員的分配方式更是“無厘頭”。
他促請首相拿督斯裡納吉及副首相丹斯裡慕尤丁介入解決問題。
魏家祥今午在馬華總部召開記者會時,針對今年公共服務局海內外獎學金官員分配科系獎學金不當,感到怒火沖冠,他在記者會上直指負責分配的官員“無厘頭”。
“我們今天召開記者會是針對今年海內外獎學金發放及分配不當,感到遺憾,這是我們成立這么多年以來,最無厘頭的一次。”
“所謂的無厘頭,就是這過去包括去年,我們都先處理被鑑定是最優秀的考生,不分種族只看成績,但今年不是。”
魏家祥透露,今年共有1500名優秀生,當中共有363名考生考獲全科A+,在1500人中,其中有20%(即300分名額)的全科A+考生必須獲得優先處理,另外,沙巴及砂拉越各別擁有5%(即75人)獲得優先處理,共450分名額。
“但為何450分優先處理的獎學金,無法妥善分配給今年考獲全科A+的363名學生?”
他指出,有關獎學金被分發后,他們接獲的投訴聲稱,考獲10A+及11A+的考生只獲本地大學獎學金,而4A+及5A+卻被安排到海外國家就讀大學。
海內外獎學金分配7大問題
1.應該得到的沒有得到,不應該得到的卻得到。
2.科系及獎學金亂配。
3.考生連私立大專院校獎學金也得不到。
4.獎學金延遲公佈日期,巧遇週末,考生求助無門。
5.考生接受獎學金的答复日期應延長。
6.預科班或許出現名額有限問題。
7.考生要求更換深造國家。

NEW YORK (AP) -- Two leading makers of lighting products are showcasing LED bulbs that are bright enough to replace energy-guzzling 100-watt light bulbs set to disappear from stores in January.
Their demonstrations at the LightFair trade show in Philadelphia this week mean that brighter LED bulbs will likely go on sale next year, but after a government ban takes effect.
The new bulbs will also be expensive -- about $50 each -- so the development may not prevent consumers from hoarding traditional bulbs.
The technology in traditional "incandescent" bulbs is more than a century old. Such bulbs waste most of the electricity that feeds them, turning it into heat. The 100-watt bulb, in particular, produces so much heat that it's used in Hasbro's Easy-Bake Oven.
To encourage energy efficiency, Congress passed a law in 2007 mandating that bulbs producing 100 watts worth of light meet certain efficiency goals, starting in 2012. Conventional light bulbs don't meet those goals, so the law will prohibit making or importing them. The same rule will start apply to remaining bulbs 40 watts and above in 2014. Since January, California has already banned stores from restocking 100-watt incandescent bulbs.
Creating good alternatives to the light bulb has been more difficult than expected, especially for the very bright 100-watt bulbs. Part of the problem is that these new bulbs have to fit into lamps and ceiling fixtures designed for older technology.
Compact fluorescents are the most obvious replacement, but they have drawbacks. They contain a small amount of toxic mercury vapor, which is released if they break or are improperly thrown away. They last longer than traditional bulbs but not as long as LEDs. Brighter models are bulky and may not fit in existing fixtures.
Another new lighting technology, organic light-emitting diodes, or OLEDs, has had problems reaching mass production. OLEDs are glowing sheets or tiles, rather than pinprick light sources, as LEDs are. They're used as vibrant color screens for smartphones, particularly from Samsung Electronics Co.
But making OLEDs that are big, bright, cheap and long-lasting enough for use as light sources has proved difficult, in part because they use chemicals that are sensitive to oxygen and spoil unless sealed very carefully.
Acuity Brands Inc., an Atlanta-based maker of light fixtures, will be showing some OLED panels at the show. They will go on sale next year, but the price will likely make them technology showpieces rather than candidates for everyday lighting.
LEDs are efficient, durable and produced in great quantities, but they're still expensive. An LED bulb can contain a dozen light-emitting diodes, or tiny semiconductor chips, which cost about $1 each.
The big problem with LEDs is that although they don't produce as much heat as incandescent bulbs, the heat they do create shortens the lifespan and reduces the efficiency of the chips. Cramming a dozen chips together in a tight bulb-shaped package that fits in today's lamps and sockets makes the heat problem worse. The brighter the bulb, the bigger the problem is.
The most powerful pear-shaped LED bulbs in stores today -- the kind that fits existing lamps -- produce light equivalent to a 60-watt bulb, though there are more powerful ones for directional or flood lighting.
Osram Sylvania, a unit of Germany's Siemens AG, said it has overcome the heat problem and will be showing a pear-shaped 100-watt-equivalent LED bulb this week. It doesn't have a firm launch date, but it usually shows products about a year before they hit store shelves.
Lighting Sciences Group Corp., a Satellite Beach, Fla.-based company that specializes in LED lighting, will be showing several 100-watt-equivalent prototypes, including some that solve the problem of cooling the LEDs by using microscopic devices that move air over the chips, like miniature fans.
Before the 100-watters, there will be 75-watters on the shelves this year. Osram Sylvania will be selling them at Lowe's starting in July. Royal Philips Electronics NV, the world's biggest lighting maker, will have them in stores late this year for $40 to $45.
However, 60-watt bulbs are the big prize, since they're the most common. There are 425 million incandescent light bulbs in the 60-watt range in use in the U.S. today, said Zia Eftekhar, the head of Philips' North American lighting division. The energy savings that could be realized by replacing them with 10-watt LED bulbs is staggering.
To stimulate LED development, the federal government has instituted a $10 million "L Prize" for an energy-efficient replacement for the 60-watt bulb. Philips is so far the only entrant in testing, and Eftekhar expects the company to win it soon. But Lighting Sciences Group plans its own entry, which it will demonstrate at the trade show.
Philips has been selling a 60-watt-equivalent bulb at Home Depot since December that's quite similar to the one submitted to the contest. But it's slightly dimmer, consumes 2 watts too much power and costs $40, whereas the L Prize target is $22. Sylvania sells a similar LED bulb at Lowe's, also for $40.
However, LED prices are coming down quickly. The DoE expects a 60-watt equivalent LED bulb to cost $10 by 2015, putting them within striking range of the price of a compact fluorescent bulb.
Bob Karlicek, the director of the Smart Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., thinks that price is achievable.
But, he said, "it's not necessarily clear to people in the lighting industry that LED chips were ever meant to go into a bulb."
What's really needed, he said, is a new approach to lighting -- new fixtures and lamps that spread out the LEDs, avoiding the heat problem.

Scholarship for all outstanding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2010 students.

PETALING JAYA: The Cabinet has decided that all students who scored 8A+ and above in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2010 will get a Public Service Department (PSD) scholarship.
MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was very happy with the SPM results and wanted to reward more good students.
“We want to train more people and encourage good students further,'' he said, when contacted by The Star.
Yesterday, Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong also tweeted about the good news decided by the Cabinet on Wednesday.
In his tweets, he said that such a move was commendable.
“Indeed (the) Cabinet is adopting (a) colour-blind policy and (is) sincere in helping top students of all races,” Dr Wee said.
However, he could not be contacted for further comment.
In July last year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said all students who scored 9A+ or more would receive PSD scholarships regardless of their race.
Najib added it did not matter if they were Malay, Chinese, Indian, Kadazan, Iban or others, adding that as long as they scored 9A+, they would get the scholarship, either for local or overseas studies.
He said this was to show that 1Malaysia was not just a slogan.
During the announcement of the analysis of the SPM 2010 results in March, Education director-general Datuk Abd Ghafar Mahmud said this year's SPM results have so far been the best in four years.
He said a total of 403 candidates comprising 363 from government schools and 40 from private schools or private students obtained A+ (super distinction) in all subjects last year compared with 214 in 2009.
Abd Ghafar said this was the second year the ministry had used the new grading system with students graded according to A+, A, A-, B+, B, C+, C, D, E and G as compared with the previous standards where the grades were from 1A to 9G.
This method gives a detailed breakdown of candidates who obtained grade A in the examination, he added.
